Colorado 2011 – Day 2: Artsy Fartsy

Our host, Robin, is a professional artist.  As in, she has a studio in her basement and makes things to sell.  For like money and stuff.  Pretty cool, huh?  She lived in Stowe, Vermont before relocating to Colorado, and this was her official “sign” that hung in her studio when her studio wasn’t in her house:

Her medium of choice is glass, so we all made mosaics.  We had so much fun!!

After Robin drew the pictures the kids requested, they colored them with colored pencils, then used them as a template underneath clear glass to build their mosaics.

Then we used glass powder, glass fritz, and some cut pieces to add the colors.

Here is what they looked like when we were finished with out part:

I can’t wait to see what they look like after they fire in the kiln!

The project took several hours, and I am so thankful Robin offered her studio to us.  The kids did get bored after awhile, so Robin and I took our champagne down and finished up, then cleaned up our mess.

That was an experience I will never forget.  In one of my other {fantasy} lives, I am an artist, living in a studio with various projects in process at the same time.  In this fantasy, I am thin because I get so caught up in my work that I forget to eat most days.  Also, I am successful – not to the point of being considered wealthy, but to the point where I don’t have to worry about money. There will be none of the storybook “Starving Artist” in this fantasy, thankyouverymuch!

So, Vacation Day 2 was the stuff [my] dreams are made of.  Sigh.

Love, love, love it! This is great..the artwork is fabulous and I agree with Jody about that sign of Robins. Aidan and Spencer did some awesome artwork and I can't wait to see them!

It was sooooo much fun!!!!!! I can totally see why lots of artisans live in that area of the country. I mean, how can you *not* be inspired when you are surrounded by such beauty every day???

I've noticed that the whole creative process (painting/drawing/crafting) is something that for whatever reason has always had a calming effect on my kids. What a great project for your munchkins! And amazing talent of Robin – LOVE that sign.

What do you think? I'd love to hear from you!
